Art for Arts Sake: The journey has been documented and is constantly in motion. It’s my personal journey. It’s how I define who I am. It is a spiritual relationship with creation. It’s also how I want the world to be. Is this fantasy, or art creating a new reality? A reality I created and symbolically put into my daily life. As a child I reverted to my imagination to deal with the violence of our household. Reading books on altered states and doing my own experiences have helped me break out and draw or paint the momentary imagination. The majority of my work has never been displayed. This web site is an attempt to put some of the works on display. The years of accumulated works has piled up. And now I turn around and see that distance of time has produced thousands of works. Thousands of exercises where I’m using my talent to focus in and create. These exercises were never about selling, reaching a wider public, but seeking an inner sanctum of peace. What began as an emotional escape turned into an expressive discipline and a habit to draw/ paint, and play guitar. I’ve sold my art since I was eighteen years old. When I lived solely from an art income it was humiliating, never enough, that dream of economic success and endless liberty from the slavery of survival. Odd how a life of “doing” leads to its own success. It was a conscious choice of poverty over comfort and no steady job for the early years. In later years I was able to travel the globe. I live like many artists before me; Seekers.
Originally I was an artist interested in realism and “place”. I wanted to depict the real world as I see it and as well as I could duplicate it; true to the environment, true to the natural world. But eventually I found references to human beings and human behavior as sad to duplicate. I paint nature free of human trace. Mostly. but my imagination has sparked many another subject matters; fantasy, spirituality, occult, and mysticism, ” Place” is often painted because of traveling. I wanted to record where I had traveled. Paintings of a scene of fisherman’s boats in Bali, or a fantasy of a Hindu deity all depends on where I create the art: place or the studio. Watercolors are lite and easy to store in luggage. I can set up anywhere to create a watercolor. I have a huge body of non-exhibited work that is solely from traveling. The others…. well, take a look………
